Olympic Games of Therapeutic Communities

[03. 07. 2006] June 30 - July 2, TC Podcestný mlýn hosted a sports meeting of clients of therapeutic communities from the whole of the Czech Republic.

From Friday, June 30, till Sunday, July 2, 2006, the TC in Kostelní Vydří (Dačice) hosted the Olympic Games of therapeutic communities.

The Olympic Games of therapeutic communities have been organized for several years, each year by one of the Therapeutic Communities (TC) of the Czech Republic, which are united under the A.N.O. (Association of Non-governmental Organizations). This year, it was organized by the TC Podcestný mlýn from the service network of Podané ruce.

The goal of the Olympic Games is meeting of clients of various communities, participating in individual and team sports.

Participants always compete in several sports events agreed in advance. Every year, each community also prepares a secrete event, when none of the clients knows in what he or she will participate. Thus the clients learn to accept victories and defeats and to behave according to fair play.

This year, a total of 12 therapeutic communities from the CR participated in the Olympic Games.

Clients of individual communities competed in six events - bicycles, pétanque, football, biathlon and secret event. The host community of Podcestný mlýn won two silver medals - in football and volleyball.

Total results:
1st place - TC White light (Úštěk)
2nd place - TC Bílá voda
3rd place - TC Nová ves

The Olympic Games are a part of physical exercise therapy which is always incorporated in the treatment process. The preparation of the Olympic Games itself is a work therapy for clients, because a person addicted to non-alcoholic drugs does not know how to spend his or her free time, cannot cope with stress and is not always capable of efficient co-operation.
